All year training program
WHAT’S INCLUDED
WHAT IS THE GOOD SURF GOOD LOVE SPORTS TRAINING PROGRAM?
WHAT IS IT?
Sports Training, in practical terms, consists of regular Winter and Summer classes/training sessions. Like other sports such as Tennis, Swimming, Gymnastics, Football, Volleyball, or Basketball, we approach teaching and training in Surfing based on the same logic of sports training, which encompasses not only sporting values but above all civic values. It requires a minimum 9-month commitment, and clients have access to special conditions. They are the Good Surf Good Love family! It includes out-of-water training support for the most regular participants – gym, skateboarding, swimming, video and photo analysis sessions, one or two formal annual evaluations, with the assignment of METSIT® level lycra, upon acquiring higher-level skills.
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
This program is a continuous training program, based on our METSIT® method – the Surf Teaching and Training Method, created by our Director Inês Tralha, also rooted in the Sports Ethics Code, education of body and mind as one, contradicting the Cartesian idea that separates these two components, and in an education of the sea and an older Portuguese Surf culture, almost lost on our beaches nowadays.
The program has a minimum duration of 9 months for the areas of Training, Recreation or Improvement, and 3 years for the areas of Specialization, Performance, Pre-Competition, Competition, High Performance, and Professionalization.
The application of our own teaching and training method allows us to ensure the physical, intellectual, moral, and civic development of children, and in the case of young people and adults, it allows us to work based on a real understanding of the learning potential and the knowledge and understanding of Surf as a Sport and as a Healthy Lifestyle.
The training is absolutely tailored to each person’s level, meaning each one has their own individualized plan. Although there is our method, the most important basis of our METSIT® method is that it was built to respect each individual’s uniqueness in terms of their skills, availability, and above all, the investment and commitment each one is willing to put into this activity.
Usually, there are 2 or 3 groups for adults/children or levels, and these groups meet according to the availability and level of the practitioners and, not less important, the sea and tide conditions.
It is always the academy that suggests the best schedules for each level, which requires specific conditions. However, we are always available to accommodate or propose a second schedule, to maintain the regularity and continuity of practice, always without compromising the Academy’s Quality and Safety Standards. (In this case, extra fees may apply).
Each class always has a maximum of 3 to 5 practitioners per Coach in the water.
Regularly, we also have another coach on land supporting corrections and recording the sessions in video and frame.
WHEN ARE THE CLASSES/TRAINING SESSIONS?
Classes can be on weekends, weekdays, and holidays.
Weekend groups usually fill up quickly, and registrations close because in Winter the days are shorter, and therefore, we do not have more time to accommodate the different levels at the best times. Thus, there is a waiting list. If there is a dropout or a contract ends, a new practitioner will be accommodated.
Programs can start at any time of the year, however, it is common for us to be sought after the Summer, when children and teenagers return to school and we all resume the more common rhythm of Winter life.
OUR CULTURE AND MÓDUS OPERANDIS
Our principle of having few practitioners in the water refers us to values from older times of Surfing, in an attempt not only to avoid further saturating the sea and waves – values we insist on maintaining and honoring – but also to maintain individual attention and dedication, ensuring that every training session or class, many waves are surfed by all our practitioners, without exception!
This is one of the reasons why we keep the Academy small and not only do they select us for this “special feature”, but we also select the candidates for our Sports Training, to maintain not only values but also good humor, respect, and integrity of the Ethics and METSIT® Method used at Good Surf Good Love, and at all times the mood that characterizes our practitioner: cheerful, respectful, at peace with life and always happy with our company in the sea and on land, dedicated to their goal and respecting our work.
For each practitioner, a plan with real objectives is debated and outlined according to their skills, physical condition, ambitions, and regularity of attendance, a plan that is adjusted whenever necessary as we progress. Our proposals are justified with the help of our General Physical Condition, Mobility and Specific Strength, and Motor Control evaluation protocol.
In the case of children, the Good Surf Good Love Academy’s test battery allows us to share with the Guardians an indication of the common skills acquired in the three areas of Physical Education (PE) extension – Physical Activities (structured in three levels of specification and complexity of learning), Knowledge and Physical Fitness, and to assess limitations and potentials also in the practice and evolution of Surf.
Throughout the program, in most sessions, besides the teacher and coach who monitor performance in the water, we also have a coach on land supporting corrections and recording video and frame records, both to keep data from before and after, to help us make corrections and have a reference of their own performance, and of course to keep the memory of the journey and make Instagram posts!!
The Good Surf Good Love Sports Training program is clearly organized by Skill Levels in an initial phase, where our practitioners learn and grasp all the foundations, fundamentals, and basic maneuvers, as we advance to more autonomous practice, whether in a performance format or leisure, recreation, well-being, therapy or lifestyle. :-)

FEES AND REGISTRATION CONDITIONS
Monthly fees start at €60 per month. Two monthly fees are paid in advance, the first and the last.
The monthly fee is always paid by the 2nd of each month. In case of a delay in the payment of the monthly fee, the invoice for the following month will incur a penalty of €20.
The monthly fee depends on regularity and can vary between 1, 2, 4, 8, 12 times per month, or the frequency the “customer” desires.
In addition to the monthly fee, all our practitioners in Sports Training go through the annual federative process.
Step 1. Register with the Club and the Federation as athletes. (Total Value: €50 – 20 for the Club and 30 for the Federation)
To start, it is necessary to follow a federative process, which involves registering with a club and subsequently with the federation.
Procedures:
1.1. Consult a family doctor and request a medical certificate that “attests to the physical and mental robustness for practicing sports activities, namely Surfing.” Our federation does not require any other document besides the medical certificate with the aforementioned text, with the respective seal and signature of the doctor.
1.2. Register with the Clube Português do Mar, the club through which our team, our coaches, and athletes, and our school are federated. The Club’s registration form is sent and contains all the necessary data. Just request the form, print, fill it out, and send it to the Club’s email: direcao@clubeportuguesdomar.pt and make a transfer of €20 to the Club’s account:
IBAN Clube Português do Mar: PT50 0007 0000 0061 9845 5212 3
This step of federating our practitioners aims to bring them closer to the reality and community of Surfing. Steps like this help us, sports entity leaders, to create a member base and involvement in sports organizations, allowing them to participate in a reality that, in our opinion, should become theirs. I emphasize, it is our belief that without this step, it is as if they were always “outsiders” in this world.
1.3. After sending the filled-out club form and proof of payment of the club fee, access the Federation’s link to continue the federative process: https://www.surfingportugal.com/filiacao-de-associados/
In the club, select “CPM – Clube Português do Mar” and in the type of member, select “Athlete”. The Federation will send an approval request to the club, which will confirm the request, and then they should send another €30 to the Federation.
This process will allow the practitioner to benefit from sports insurance. Although it is not very relevant, as we have not had any accidents or injuries for at least 12 years.
Informative note: The federative process is annual, based on the calendar year. This means it is always renewed in January.
Step 2. Formalize the registration in our Sports Training!
Fill out the Good Surf Good Love Practitioner Registration Form and sign the Sports Training Agreement.
These monthly fees require a minimum 9-month commitment and two times a month. But it is possible to change the frequency of attendance whenever desired, having to notify before the next month begins (until the 25th of the preceding month) so that the value can be adjusted on the monthly invoice.
In case of a dropout, for whatever reason, more or less justifiable, a receipt is issued with the difference in unit values of all services and sessions accompanied by the Good Surf Good Love Coaches.
Classes cannot be carried over from month to month, to maintain a minimum regularity.
The classes/sessions/training are personal and non-transferable.
Note: in case of a new pandemic situation, or another reason that forces a new closure of activities, the monthly fees are halved, and payments continue, so they can then have half months prepaid.
TRAINING FOR IMPROVEMENT, AUTONOMOUS SURFERS, ATHLETES OR PROGRESS AND PERFORMANCE
In the case of Performance, Pre-Competitive, or Competitive Training, the value is adjusted according to several factors: which beach the practitioner lives near, opening the possibility of providing occasional support at their beach, for example, among other factors, such as management and monitoring of Regional, National, or even International competitions and how we will prepare the training so that they practice and prepare on the waves where they will compete one day.
In the METSIT® Method levels used at Good Surf Good Love, this training phase presupposes the complete acquisition of levels Zero and One. Autonomy, practice, and belief in sports values, healthy and civic behavior habits, and adjustment to the Good Surf Good Love METSIT® method are essential conditions for us to advance in professional and individualized planning and work with the practitioner.
This program also includes the periodization of a macrocycle of training focused on a competitive goal.
The confidentiality and performance of the athlete will never be compromised, as the academy will never accept 2 athletes from the same category aiming for the same position in the competition tables to be accompanied by the same coach, thus avoiding any conflict of interest.
In this case, the program includes the support of a complete team for the organization and periodization of the entire plan by an Academic Sports Coach, Personal Surf Coach, Physical Trainer, Physiotherapist, Nutritionist, and Sports Psychologist. These elements are indisputably debated or chosen by the Technical Director of Good Surf Good Love – Inês Tralha.
Please note that this program does not necessarily have to be for a competitive athlete, it can also be organized for someone going on a Surf trip to a dream location, for example, or simply for someone who wants to challenge themselves to elevate their level and consistency in Surfing.
This service is not priced. It presupposes a case-by-case analysis and also the management by Good Surf Good Love of sponsorships and the athlete’s career, if that is the goal.
