This is Joãozinha,
a new Surfer I formed this Summer, on a hard rip current day at Santa Cruz, one of the beaches we operate. At the beginning of the Summer João was not very comfortable at the sea or even nearby. I had to conquer her trust and step by step teacher how to be at the sea.
Wile having fun, and gaining confidence in the sea, I was teaching her, sometimes only by whispering in her ear and not giving much importance, the rules of safety and respect for the sea, the equipment and the others.
On this last day, she showed us how she learned to always keep her board under control, and even at the end of the wave she never loses her board.
Learned to get out of a rip current without my help (but with me around )! And showed us how to start turning, as you can see in the video.
Joaozinha also has already the ability to row to catch the waves by herself, but on this day the waves were very fast and strong, so she just caught waves with my help.
My experience with children and adults and some studies that I have done and also I believe, that due to my training and academic knowledge, I believe and defend that if the learning process can be facilitated, so be it, in this case, the children can go further In less time.
Above all, the whole learning environment must be absolutely controlled, and we should keep them in safe, so that the children do not gain fears for falling from the board in the sea without necessity, and while their adaptation – to the aquatic environment of the Santa Cruz sea, is not yet acquired, so that it is normal to walk in that whirlwind type industrial washing machine, that we know that the force of Santa Cruz sea can be!
To teach children it’s a big responsibility.
