Who guides your journey
Ocean experience.
Careful teaching.
Inês Tralha combines training in Physical Education and Sport, a specialisation in surfing and experience in teaching and coaching the sport.
At Good Surf Good Love, technique sits alongside surf culture: ocean respect, responsible decisions and attention to the person on the board. This approach gives Surfing With Science its identity.

Every level · Individual coaching
The same edition.
Your own journey.
Welcoming every level requires understanding each surfer. METSIT® assessment guides goals, exercises, equipment and suitable practice conditions.
Those starting out work on the foundations. Those already independent work on technical priorities. Coaching arrangements consider these starting points so each person receives specialist attention.
Group size, coaching ratios and specific session arrangements will be presented in the final proposal.
Close teaching · Individual attention
The method comes alive
through coaching.
Explain, observe and adjust. On the beach and in the water, teaching starts with the individual and what they are working on.

METSIT®
Método de Ensino e Treino de Surf Inês Tralha
Created by Inês Tralha
The method that gives
your progression direction.
Surfing With Science is the experience. METSIT® is the method behind it: understanding the surfer, assessing skills, selecting equipment and organizing teaching and coaching around the individual and the ocean.
Your experience matters.
Your journey starts with you.
The Good Surf Good Love equation
Surfer.
Board. Ocean.
Three connected elements. The board needs to suit the surfer. Conditions need to suit the learning goals. Teaching adapts to the interaction between all three.
Individual assessment
A preliminary questionnaire and level-based tests help assess physical condition and ocean and surfing skills.
METSIT® skill levels
Progression is organized around skills. Body control, basic stance, board awareness, understanding waves, safety and surf culture form the foundations.
Adapted teaching and coaching
Assessment guides goals, exercises and equipment. Practice and observation help identify what needs consolidating and what to work on next.
Efficiency and autonomy
Respecting functional movement, understanding decisions and developing control. The goal is to build tools for continued learning and responsible surfing.
Science applied to teaching. Surf culture at its heart.
Biomechanics, training principles, motor learning and ocean awareness inform the approach. Respect for the individual, equipment, ocean and other surfers accompanies technical learning.

Know where you are.
Understand your next step.
METSIT® levels organize the learning journey around skills. The team assesses your starting point: what you can do, with what control, under which conditions and with how much independence.
METSIT®
First experience
Glide towards the beach while standing, with balance, control and comfort. An introduction to safety rules and METSIT® culture.
What we observe
Starting physical condition, mobility, motor control and ability to take part in a guided first experience.
METSIT®
Practicing and mastering basic skills
Work on basic stance, consistently standing up and staying up, board control and initial changes of direction.
What we observe
Static and dynamic balance, board control, direction and initial wave awareness.
METSIT®
New skills
Develop paddling, wave timing and take-off. Start surfing beyond the whitewater and work towards independence in small green waves.
What we observe
Paddling, passing waves, board control, reading conditions and initial guided decisions.
METSIT®
Consolidation and emerging independence
Consolidate the drop, bottom turn and riding the wave face, connecting previously practised skills.
What we observe
Consistency, basic stance, wave selection, technical execution and independence in conditions suited to the surfer.
METSIT®
Practicing and achieving full independence
Integrate the skills from earlier stages and deepen ocean understanding to surf independently.
What we observe
Mastery of foundational skills, assessed in the green or blue zones of the METSIT® radar. Independence is always considered in the context of ocean conditions.
METSIT®
Technical coaching and refinement
For surfers already performing maneuvers who want to develop more advanced technical skills in line with their goals.
What we observe
Execution quality, consistency, adaptation to the wave and specific coaching needs.
This map presents the method’s stages. Taking part in an edition does not guarantee advancement to another level. The team confirms each surfer’s starting point and adapts goals to observed skills and ocean conditions.
Assessment and METSIT® diagrams
This is an original record of the method. Its marks and notes belong to the photographed example; they do not represent your assessment or promised results.
What we assess
A profile of skills.
An individual journey.
The radar brings together skills in three areas: board, surfer and ocean. Reading them together helps us understand each person’s profile. Its colour zones help visualise skill mastery and areas requiring further work.
- Board
- Board control and retention, passing waves, finishing a wave and wave-passing techniques.
- Surfer
- General and surf-specific physical condition, basic stance, standing up and staying up, paddling, confidence and safety.
- Ocean
- Surf rules and culture, wave timing, reading wave direction and energy, riding and technical decisions such as the bottom turn.

Hand-drawn visual reinterpretations of the 2021 METSIT® diagrams, preserving the method’s concepts. Original diagrams are available beside each illustration. The radar retains the academy’s original published record. Captions and explanations are available in Portuguese and English.

Observe
The original METSIT® radar shown above records skills across surfer, board and ocean. It makes the assessment visible.
Define the next step
Assessment guides equipment, practice conditions and the skills to work on. The aim is to make each coaching decision understandable.
Record and review
The original journal pages show how waves, surf lines and session observations are recorded. The final report brings your assessment and next priorities together.
The radar and journal are original records of the method. They illustrate how we work; they are not a before-and-after case study or a promise of progress to a particular level.

Learning also
takes shape on paper.
The athlete’s journal is part of Surfing With Science. It is a working notebook for observing, recording and continuing your learning journey.
Ocean conditions, surfing lines, session goals, sensations and feedback. Writing and drawing help organize what you experience in the water and prepare the next coaching priorities.
The notebook style of the METSIT® diagrams grows from this practice: observing, understanding, experimenting and adjusting again.
